Kicking off the bingo game for the illustration tropes!
For the next 25 days, I'll be sharing daily observations about illustration tropes through this fun bingo challenge. Each day focuses on one illustration trope used in editorial illustration.
Today's illustration trope is about turning the brain into a little machine, making it easier for readers to understand how our minds work through familiar mechanical parts.
*Check out the Sunday Scoop #7 for the backstory on this challenge!
Today's Findings
1. Wenjia Tang
I see the brain becomes a whimsical park filled with daily human activities, while a transmission tower suggests our mind's constant broadcasting of thoughts and experiences.
2. Bratislav Milenković
I see the brain as an interconnected control panel, with a standout visual metaphor of wired connections emerging from the ear—suggesting how our sensory inputs get processed through this intricate mental machinery.
3. Jake Hollings
Inside this head, I see little scenes of life (like someone watering plants!) and abstract patterns coming together like a cozy mental mood board, all resting on a colorful patchwork of memories and textures.
One interesting pattern I noticed today…
All three pieces transform the mind's complex activity into something tangible and familiar—whether it's mechanical control panels, a busy park, or a collage of daily moments—making our abstract thoughts feel more accessible and relatable.
